Teacher Professional Development and Student Enrichment Opportunities in Kent

With the first term of the new academic year well underway, I
thought it appropriate to let you know details of AMSP teacher professional
development and student enrichment opportunities that have been planned for
Kent in the coming months.
On 2nd October 2018 we are running a 'Raising Confidence with Reasoning' course
at Weald of Kent Grammar School, TN9 2JP. This is the first of a series of 3
courses planned for this year to raise confidence in the teaching of 11-16
mathematics. State- funded schools, colleges and academies can book one or
two places on each of the three courses, with the flexibility for each day to
be attended by a different teacher and the ideas shared across the department.
The courses are FREE to teachers from qualifying institutions, with additional
funding of £100 per teacher attending help to alleviate the cost of
attendance. Look here
for further
details.
For those of you who teach STEP mathematics, we are running an introduction to
STEP mathematics PD day at Ashford School, TN24 8PB
on 9th November 2018. We have a very experienced STEP tutor from UCL
leading this course. This course is open to teachers from ALL schools, subject
to a payment of £50 to help us cover costs. Further details and the booking
link for this course are here.
Our first Canterbury teacher network meeting of the year is planned for
Thursday 11th October at Canterbury Academy, running from 16.15 until 18.00. Jenny
Davey, one of our London Area Coordinators, will lead a session on Active
Statistics for A Level Mathematics, focusing on the year 2 Statistics content.
Further details are here.
Finally, an advance warning that I will soon be announcing the dates for a
series of 10 problem solving workshops for sixth form students on Saturday
mornings at the University of Kent. Please keep an eagle eye out for my email
announcing this and encourage your students to apply as soon as they can as
places are limited and will be taken up quickly.
Kind regards,
